Teen/Tween Skincare Guide - Safe, Gentle & K-Beauty Approved

Simple, Safe & Effective

Young skin is delicate and changing — whether it’s a tween just starting skincare, or a teen managing oiliness, dryness or breakouts. Korean skincare is perfect for this stage because it focuses on maintaining a healthy complexion with gentle formulas, soothing ingredients and barrier support, not harsh treatments.

This guide keeps things simple for both parents and teens.

Tweens (Ages 8-12)

A gentle hydrating routine is all they need.

Tween skin is still developing. They do not need actives, exfoliants or long routines. But many tweens show early signs of puberty - clogged pores, afternoon shininess - or simply enjoy having a routine. If you're ready to introduce skincare, keep it simple.

Tween Essentials

  • Gentle cleanse morning + night

  • Lightweight moisturiser

  • SPF every morning (even in winter)

  • Optional: mild toner if skin feels tight

Optional Toner

  • Mixsoon Bean toner - gentle, fragrance-free hydration for tweens who feel dry or tight after cleansing.

Avoid for Tweens

Salicylic acid • Scrubs AHA/BHA/PHA exfoliants • Retinol/retinoids • Strong fragrance • Long routines

Teens (Ages 13 - 19)

More options, but routines should still stay gentle.

Hormonal changes often bring breakouts, oiliness or sensitivity. A simple routine with soothing, balanced formulas works best.

Final Tips

Young skin doesn’t need complicated routines — just steady habits. Encourage cleansing twice daily, moisturising, and wearing SPF. Avoid harsh exfoliants or adult-strength treatments, and always patch test new products. If acne becomes persistent or painful, a GP can offer the right support.
